Unfortunately, people make horrible decisions when bullets start flying, the biggest being to hide instead of run:
"I saw the gunman randomly shooting. I ran with a group of women to Victoria's Secret," Wilson said. She said they crouched behind a wall in the store, and when the shooting stopped, an employee ran out and closed a security gate at the front.
Betz Dejarnatt, who works at the J.C. Penney store, said she heard three shots. She said some of the workers were herded into dressing rooms and offices, then police took them outside to a parking lot.
I think everybody who has played a game involving guns knows that the key to survival when you run out of ammunition is to keep your head down and run, not hunker down and hide. A moving target is much harder to hit than a stationary one. If you try to hide they can find you and shoot you much more easily, an occurance which will seriously spoil your day.
Just about every store has a stockroom with an exit that leads to an outside door where you will able to put large metal objects (cars) between you and the gun. Even if it doesn't, running from the sound of the gun is probably your best way to stay alive.
